Born in the contemporary era, as an intermediate formula that boosts the advantages and reduces the limits of the two major alternatives for public goods and services provision, public procurement and privatization, public-private partnership (PPP) is a popular concept, that does not enjoy clear theoretical boundaries, generating therefore a series of controversies.
This book approaches the evolution of the PPP phenomenon in Romania, comparatively analysing the national experience with other six counties, that find themselves in different stages of PPP maturity.
The impact of public-private partnership on the local economic development process is studied using several econometric regression models and a questionnaire admitered to county level public authorities in Romania. Both quantitative instruments reveal a strong relationship between public-private cooperation and economic and social welfare of local communities.
