The present paper examines the objectives of Romania and current opportunities that EU policies applied in agriculture, the EU requirements for candidate countries and the ongoing integration.
Another dimension of the study concerns the current situation of agriculture and the measures that Romania has to take so to fully benefit from the advantages and minimize the costs of the integration process.
A first motivation for this study the issue of agriculture consists in results of an analysis of the situation of Romanian agriculture during the transition period. Agriculture, along with industry is a sector that has suffered most from the transition, excessive fragmentation of land, the unemployed re-orientate industrial restructuring in agriculture (but without the necessary training), lack of interest in the means of mechanization and existing irrigation and poor equipment without modern technologies have led to subsistence farming, with performance lower than the existing potential.
Existence of high agricultural potential was one of the main factors of interest to extend the excitement of the European Union and embed gap developing countries with strong and visible differences to the Community level as is Romania.
Thus, it is creating the second motivating factor, the economy given the importance of agriculture in Eastern and Central Europe and the key role that this sector will play in shaping the modern food economy.
