This book covers the “capitalist period” of the Romanian university teaching system.
The work makes a review of the evolution of the economic schools at the end of the nineteenth century and of the most important commercial universities of Europe as well.
Founded in April 1913, the Academy of Higher Commercial and Industrial Studies differs from the rest of the European institutions of this kind, as it was created not by a private initiative, but by a political decision of Nicolae D. Xenopol, the Minister of Industry and Commerce.
For more objectiveness, the author applies a chronological order of the events, giving the possibility for those interested to shape their own vision on the facts. The important events that influenced the evolution of the institution are also described as well as the activity of the Rectors of that period (1913 – 1947).
At the beginning, the Commercial Academy was subordinated to the Minister of Industry and Commerce and in 1934 it was transferred to the authority of the Minister of Public Instruction. Until 1926 it didn’t have its own headquarters, functioning in a building next to the Foundation “Carol I”, the present Central University Library.
This monograph covers the interest of the teachers and students and also of those interested in the evolution and history of the Romanian economic teaching.
